HOLEMAKER TECHNOLOGY 501040-3SET VERSADRIVE SET - IMPACT REAMERS (1 / 2, 5 / 8, 3 / 4")
Product Code: FEI69908038502
Keep the Job Moving when a connection hole is undersized
VersaDrive reamers are the perfect hole alignment and enlarging tool for metalworkers & steel erectors for keeping the job moving when a hole is misaligned or the incorrect size for the fixing.
Featuring a specially designed 6 flute cutting geometry and Titanium coating, VersaDrive Reamers are fully Impact rated and perform fastest when used with an Impact Wrench providing ultimate cutting performance with virtually no powertool kickback.
VersaDrive Reamers have a patented nonslip, Hex shank suitable for use in any standard 1/2” drill chuck for Pistol Drills or used with a VersaDrive Rapid Lock adapter for use in a wide range of powertools such as Magnetic Drills.
Product Benefits
- Precision 6-flute design for smooth cutting
- Safer reaming with minimal kickback
- Specially hardened for use with impact tools
- High-grade tool steel for high accuracy and long life
- High strength, non-slip shank design
- Goldmax low-friction titanium coating to stop burn-out
- Use on Impact or Rotary
Quick Guide
- For fastest performance use on Impact Wrenches & Impact Drivers
- Not recommended for Impact use with flame, plasma or laser cut holes
- For flame, plasma or laser cut holes use with a Magnet Drill
- Reamer should be rotating before starting the cut & steady feed pressure used throughout
- For materials thicker than 3/4" use of VersaDrive MAX Reamers is recommended
VersaDrive Reamer FAQ Section
Q: Can I use my impact wrench with VersaDrive Reamers?
Yes, VersaDrive Reamers are specially hardened and designed with a unique geometry which allows them to be effectively used with Impact Drivers and Wrenches.
Q: What is the maximum size I can increase a hole with one Versadrive reamer?
The maximum size hole enlargement we recommend for each diameter of reamer is 2-3mm. This is because the as the diameter of the reamer increases the cutting forces get greater and increase the tool wear and load on the tool itself which increases the risk of wear or even failure.
Q: Can I Ream laser/flame cut holes using Impact?
Reaming Flame Cut or Laser Cut holes or even punched holes with reamers using Impact wrenches may significantly reduce the tool life due to the surface hardening that takes place around the perimeter of the hole. Often these holes are roughly cut or may not be parallel which is also likely to cause breakage. If possible, we suggest reaming the hole using a slow speed Magnet Drill or other drilling machine, to remove the surface hardness and ensure an accurate hole.
Q: Can I use Versadrive Reamers for stainless and other hard materials?
Versadrive eamers are suitable for reaming stainless steel when used at lower RPM speeds in rotary drills. They can be used for drilling Stainless Steel with an Impact wrench, however reduced life expectancy would be expected. TurboTip Reamers are not intended for use on Hardox and other wear plate materials. For optimum tool life We recommend using reduced rotary RPM speeds, higher pressure and increased lubrication.
Q: Why has my reamer chipped on the flutes?
This is classic sign of "chatter" caused by the reamer vibrating unevenly against the workpiece rather than smoothly cutting. To avoid this, gently increase pressure (without forcing or jamming the tool) to ensure the reamer is cutting equally at each point of the circumference.
Q: Which lubricant do you recommend for Reamers?
Speedlube is generally the best all purpose lubricant, for fast, convenient and accurate aerosol application ensuring coverage inside the hole as well as on the tool. However our BioCut paste is very popular and efficient lubricant for dipping the tool directly into the tin. It’s also great for minimising run off or mess, on painted surfaces or other sensitive applications where run off is to be avoided. Aeropaste can be used if working in applications such as Overhead where a fluid lubricant will run off. Finally BioCut Blue cutting fluid works particularly well with harder materials or difficult applications and is ideal forfor direct application onto the tool and into the hole when working on flat surfaces.
Q: Can I use my impact wrench to enlarge holes in Stainless Steel using the VersaDrive or ImpactaMag Reamers?
Yes, although we recommend the use of a low speed, rotary drill or Magnet Drill for optimum life expectancy in stainless steel. Reamers can be used on impact for Stainless steel to speed the job up but reduced life expectancy would be expected.
Q: Can I use HMT Reamers to ream through misaligned (half) holes?
Yes, this is a typical application for VersaDrive or ImpactaMag reamers. The Tapered reamer will follow the path of the top hole to open up the overlapping hole, along the fixing to pass through both plates.
Q: When will a reamer go blunt?
Typically speaking if the tool has blunted sooner than you would have expected it to, the typical cause is using too high an RPM for the particular application causing the tool to wear and blunt prematurely. When used at recommended RPM and torque limits and all best practice is followed, you should expect excellent tool life.
Q: Are these reamers likely to break?
Reamers will generally only break if too high feed pressure (force) has been used, causing the reamer to jam in the hole, and ultimately to break.
Q: Can VersaDrive/ImpactaMag Reamers be resharpened?
They can be resharpened by dedicated resharpening companies using tool grinding machines. We do not offer this service directly but we can recommed resharpening companies.
Q: How can i access further technical support or submit a warranty claim for my VersaDrive Reamer?
Please click here to access our product support area and warranty claim forms. If making a warranty claim please fill in the appropriate warranty form, providing us with as much of the requested information as possible and one of our technical team will review the feedback and be in touch shortly.
Best Practice Advice - How to get the best out of your 501030 Impact Reamers
- Apply firm, steady feed pressure throughout the cut, applying the feed very slowly and cautiously during the first 1mm of cut.
- To maximise tool life do not attempt to increase the existing hole diameter beyond 2-3mm. If a larger, finished hole size is required, then the next size reamer should be used to ‘step up’ until the finished hole diameter is reached.
- Avoid lateral movement or tilting which can cause damage to the tool
- Ensure regular application of quality cooling lubricant, especially when drilling thick or hardened materials.
- Flame cut, laser cut or punched holes may not be possible to ream with impact wrench. In this situation the hole can be reamed out with a slow speed Magnet Drill with a ImpactaMag or VersaDrive reamer.
- Follow guidelines to set correct RPM speed. Incorrect RPM can lead to poor life or tool breakage.
- Ensure a debris free surface of sufficient steel thickness for strong magnet hold when Magnet Drilling.
- Regularly check that Magnet Drill slides, handles, arbors and movable parts have not vibrated loose over time.
How to decide which Impact Wrench or Impact Driver to use?
- Identify the torque range (for the cutting tool) required using the data sheet in question 2. (Example 16mm hole in 12mm plate – Guide torque 340Nm)
- Identify the torque range on your impact wrench or impact driver
- Look up model number to see torque range
- Check if there are speed/torque settings on the tool - Example
- Select the closest torque setting on the impact wrench/impact driver ABOVE the torque recommendation
- (this is for the following 2 reasons)
- - Higher torque will only be used on demand
- - Too low torque will lead to the tool jamming or even snapping as the flutes stop cutting and the torque transfers to the tool
