INNOVATIVE COMBINATION COUNTERSINKING TOOL
The MultiSink is a worldwide unique new Combination Countersink Tool designed and developed by HMT for use with Magnetic Drills.
The tool allows the user to combine the multisink with the VersaDrive product range to Broach & Countersink, Drill & Countersink, Tap & Countersink or even Drill, Tap & Countersink in one operation - providing huge time-saving benefits.
Product Benefits
- Innovative Combination Countersinking Tool
- Save Time Completing Countersunk Holes
- GoldMax low-friction titanium coating to stop burn-out
- Broach & Countersink in one operation
- Drill & Countersink in one operation
- Tap & Countersink in one operation
- Drill-Tap & Countersink in one operation
Quick Guide
- To Tap & Countersink or Drill, Tap and Countersink requires a Magnet Drill with variable speed and reverse features
- For predrilled holes the MultiSink should always be used with a pilot to avoid damage
- When used to drill or broach & countersink it is important to use the correct RPM for each separate operation
- When used for multiple operations eg Drill/Tap/ Countersink, the correct RPM should be used for each separate operation
VersaDrive MultiSink FAQ Section
Q: How do I know if my Magnet Drill or Drilling Machine is suitable for use with the MultiSink?
The Multisink tool needs to be used with a variable speed magnet drill or other drilling machine that has the torque and speed range suitable for countersinking. For optimum performance you need to alter the drilling RPM speed for each seperate operation, not leave it at a constant speed. The Countersinking RPM is around 1/3 of the speed of the drilling RPM for standard S275 grade structural steels. If you want to Tap and Countersink in one operation then your drill needs to be reversible.
Q: Why have I damaged the tips of my MultiSink?
When using the MultiSink to only countersink predrilled holes it should always be used with the pilot guide of correseponding diameter as this protects the fragile tips of the tool and helps prevent damage as well as centering the tool perfectly in the hole and improving cutting performance and preventing chatter.
Q: Can I Drill & Countersink Hardox and Wear Plate Steels with the MultiSink?
Wear plate materials like Hardox are extremely hard and require maximum rigidity of cutting tool with a reduced distance between spindle and work piece. We recommend pre-drilling the holes separately using CarbideMax Ultra Coated TCT Cutters, and then Countersinking the hole separately with the Ultra Coated TCT MultiSink and the corresponding pilot guide.
Q: Which Lubricant do you recommend when using the MultiSink?
Speedlube is generally the best all purpose lubricant, for fast, convenient and accurate aerosol application ensuring coverage inside the hole as well as on the tool. However our BioCut paste is very popular and efficient lubricant for dipping the tool directly into the tin. It’s also great for minimising run off or mess, on painted surfaces or other sensitive applications where run off is to be avoided. Aeropaste can be used if working in applications such as Overhead where a fluid lubricant will run off. Finally BioCut Blue cutting fluid works particularly well with harder materials or difficult applications and is ideal for direct application onto the tool and into the hole when working on flat surfaces.
Q: Can I use the MultiSink to Countersink Laser Cut or Flame Cut holes?
Laser Cut or flame cut holes are often not perfectly round holes and may have rough edges. This means that the reccomended pilot guide may not fit into the hole. Best practice is to ream the holes in advance to ensure they are perfectly round and remove the surface hardness, then use the MultiSink wiht the corresponding Pilot Guide to countersink the hole.
Q: Why has my MultiSink gone blunt?
Typically speaking if the Countersink has blunted sooner than you would have expected it to, the typical cause is using too high an RPM for the particular application causing the tool to wear and blunt prematurely. When used at recommended RPM and torque limits and all best practice is followed, you should expect excellent tool life.
Q: Why have I damaged the tips of my MultiSink?
When using the MultiSink to only countersink predrilled holes it should always beused with the pilot guide of correseponding diameter as this protects the fragile tips of the tool and helps prevent damage as well as centering the tool perfectly in the hole and improving cutting performance and preventing chatter.
Q: How can I access further technical support or submit a warranty claim for my MultiSink?
Please click here to access our product support area and warranty claim forms. If making a warranty claim please fill in the appropriate warranty form, providing us with as much of the requested information as possible and one of our technical team will review the feedback and be in touch shortly.
Best Practice Advice - How to get the best out of your VersaDrive MultiSink
- Follow guidelines to set correct RPM speed. Incorrect RPM can lead to poor life or tool breakage
- Apply firm, steady feed pressure throughout the cut
- Avoid lateral movement or tilting which can cause damage to the tool
- Ensure regular application of quality cooling lubricant, especially when drilling thick or hardened materials.
- Hardened or heat-affected materials may require higher torque, reduced RPM and feed rates and extra coolant
- Ensure a debris free surface of sufficient steel thickness for strong magnet hold when Magnet Drilling.
- Use at highest available Gear setting (for maximum torque) and use electronic tachometer to set RPM at recommended speed (or slower for difficult applications)
- Best countersinking results are achieved using a variable speed drill that allows the correct speed to be set. Use at correct RPM (if unsure use tachometer to check drill speed)
- Piloted Countersink Bits (like the MultiSink) will significantly increase countersinking performance preventing movement of the countersink whilst drilling.
